Wood County commissioners approve routine resolutions, authorize extra drainage funding and hold two executive sessions

The Wood County Board of County Commissioners approved a slate of routine resolutions and personnel actions at its April 21, 2026 regular meeting and agreed to allocate an additional $8,000 to complete drainage work in the county office building basement.
Commissioner Theodore H. Bowlus moved to approve the resolutions on the attached listing; Commissioner Craig LaHote seconded and the commissioners voted unanimously to carry the motion, according to the meeting minutes. The resolutions reviewed included funding and contract items such as an adjustment to appropriations for the Juvenile Residential Center, a maintenance agreement with the Wood County Combined Health District, space leasing for Job and Family Services, authorization of transportation services for veterans, and authorization of an agreement with Kleinfelder, Inc. for PY2026 CHIP program application work. The detailed listing provided to the board names Resolution No. 26-00486 (purchase of basketball hoops for the Juvenile Residential Center, $13,129.00) and Resolution No. 26-00500 (agreement with Kleinfelder, Inc. for CHIP program application administration), among others.
Assistant Administrator Dan Scherger told the board that drainage repairs in the county office basement were approved during last year’s budget at $12,800 but that maintenance staff identified additional necessary work that would cost about $8,000 to complete. "He asked the Commissioners if they would like to move forward with the additional work." The minutes record that the commissioners agreed to include the extra $8,000.
The board also moved into closed sessions twice. Commissioner Craig LaHote moved to enter executive session to consider the purchase of property, a motion seconded by Commissioner Bowlus; the motion carried at 9:48 a.m. The minutes show the board left that executive session at 10:10 a.m. The board then entered a second executive session, at 10:11 a.m., to discuss security arrangements for the county; it left that session at 10:37 a.m. The minutes do not disclose deliberations that occurred during either closed session.
The minutes further record that Commissioner Doris I. Herringshaw called the meeting to order and later moved to adjourn. However, the roll call recorded with the resolution adopting the minutes shows Commissioner Herringshaw listed as "ABSENT" for that roll; the minutes do not reconcile that discrepancy.
Clerk of the Board Sandy Long attested to the minutes and the resolution adopting them (Resolution No. 26-00501). The board noted that reasonable accommodations for disabled persons would be provided upon request.
