Building Inspection reports steady construction, offers post-flood assessments for Pemberville

Chief Building Official Rob Cendol and Assistant Chief Chris Schrinel briefed commissioners on the office's quarterly activity. Cendol said his office "is now fully staffed" and that office renovations are nearly complete; he said an intern from BGSU worked well and he hopes to hire another in the fall.
Cendol described a request from the Village of Pemberville about post-flooding inspections and explained that DARTs (Disaster Assistance Response Teams) "are trained volunteers who quickly perform assessments after disaster events." He said he had spoken with Wood County EMA and expected a call with village officials and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources the following day to clarify whether structures need permitting and inspection.
The Building Inspection monthly report for March 2026 showed 84 permits and construction value for the month of $20,106,057, with fees received of $264,688.05, and listed permit types including single-family dwellings and several commercial projects. Cendol said there have been no major operational changes or a slowdown in construction compared with last year.
