County insurance renewal: CORSA reports 5.4% premium increase, new excess-insurance vehicle

Craig Kachmarik, vice president of Stapleton Insurance Group, and John Brownlee, managing director of CORSA, briefed the Board on the county's 2026 insurance renewal.
Kachmarik said inflation has moderated and weather-related losses have slowed, but coverage needs have risen in several areas; "there is a 5.4% increase for premiums this year," he said. Brownlee said CORSA has subsidized "approximately $700,000 in grants to law enforcement this year," described a roughly $100 million increase in county property valuation since 2019 and a $16 million payroll increase over the same period, and said CORSA helped create a new excess-insurance entity to reduce exposure to standard-market limits.
Brownlee also noted that many carriers have reduced law-enforcement coverage and that CORSA is working with the county Dog Warden to adjust coverage following the passage of Avery's Law. Commissioner Craig LaHote said he was pleased the premium increase was limited to about 5% for the year.
No vote was required; the presentation was informational and commissioners thanked the presenters.
