The George County School District recognized a cohort of Leadership Academy participants and dozens of staff marking service milestones at its meeting.
A Staff member introduced the Leadership Academy, saying the program began six years ago and that 67 district employees have completed it; about one‑third, the speaker said, now serve as lead teachers, assistant principals or principals. "Their willingness to step forward, to learn, to reflect, and to lead speaks volumes about the dedication," the Staff member said.
The recognition covered seven current Leadership Academy members named aloud by the Staff member: Coach Kenneth Burns, Miss Heather Hawkins, Coach Benjamin Hughes, Miss Lynn Jones, Miss Carla Ladd and Mister Ronald Benwood. The board also heard a series of service‑anniversary recognitions. Employees named for five years of service included Courtney Davis, Scott Henderson, Hailey Hopkins, Jane Allgood, Maria Bullock, Amanda Dawden, Delta Davis and others. Ten‑year recognitions included Kristen Smith, Michelle Collins and Ashton Essence. The Staff member read additional names for 15‑, 20‑ and 25‑year milestones, including Brandon Davis and Richard Maples.
Board members asked a few operational questions after the recognitions about what the Leadership Academy provides and about licensing and bonding associated with related programs. The Staff member said the program provides access and training rather than housing and offered to provide additional information on costs and benefits.
The meeting moved on after the recognitions; no formal policy change or funding decision for the Leadership Academy was recorded in the transcript.
The district’s recognitions and the staff offer to supply further cost and benefit details were the latest steps in a longer‑running professional development effort; the district did not announce new funding or program expansions at this meeting.
