Park board approves routine business; moves to authorize signing of Slavens property deed covenant and notes upcoming Geswein closing

At its March 4, 2026 meeting, the Tippecanoe County Park and Recreation Board unanimously approved its February minutes and the board’s claims. The February minutes were approved on a motion by Mike Gery seconded by Dave Luhman; claims were approved on a motion by Dave Luhman seconded by Mike Gery.
During the superintendent’s report, staff said the closing on the Geswein property is expected around March 19, 2026. The board noted that INDOT has completed monitoring of a portion of the Slavens property that is subject to a mitigation agreement between the Park Board and INDOT.
Board member Dave Luhman moved to allow board member Opal Kuhl to sign a "Declaration of Restrictions and Covenants Upon Real Estate" on behalf of the board so it can be recorded and added to the Slavens property deed; the motion was seconded by Denny Mellon. The minutes record the motion and second but do not provide a vote tally; the motion is recorded in the minutes as the board action on the Slavens property.
Staff also reported that SK Hynix is seeking temporary parking for construction workers to reduce traffic in residential areas during construction; Purdue Research approached staff regarding potential use of the Amphitheater parking lot. The minutes state that more information is needed to determine feasibility and the potential impact on the grounds.
