Wood Haven administrator: state health survey finds no resident concerns; facility reports 9.65 satisfaction score

Jeff Orlowski, administrator of Wood Haven, told the Wood County Board of Commissioners on April 7 that Ohio Department of Health surveyors are at the facility through Thursday and resident interviews conducted so far raised no concerns.

The update provided details about staffing, quality metrics and recent admissions. Orlowski said finances broke even in February and that the facility’s current census is 83 residents. He reported that 8 of the 15 admissions in February were referrals from Wood County Hospital.

Israel Reyes, environmental services supervisor at Wood Haven, said his department recently reached a 9.65 customer-satisfaction score last fall and is striving for a 9.0 benchmark; he told the board the department is fully staffed, noted two employees received the facility’s Spirit of Wood Haven Award and two received resident-nominated Empathy Awards. Reyes described his leadership approach as visible and hands-on: he said he “tries to be out on the floor a lot.”

Orlowski said the facility has not yet received a Medicaid settlement payment that is expected to be paid to Wood Haven and that he had raised the issue with county administrators. He also told the commissioners that census has remained strong and that the share of referrals from Wood County Hospital has risen since October after a meeting with the hospital’s discharge planner.

Commissioners thanked Orlowski and Reyes for the report. The Ohio Department of Health survey is scheduled to remain at the facility through Thursday; the commissioners received the update and took no formal action.
