Park Board: no 2026 rate increases; ice-fishing ordinance discussion tabled; county buys utility vehicle

Superintendent Randy Lower reported several operational items at the Tippecanoe County Park and Recreation Board’s Feb. 4 meeting.
Lower said there will be no rate increases at any Park Board properties for 2026. He also reported that Claire Eagle, identified in the minutes as TCHA executive director, contacted him about a proposed project through Indiana University related to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).
On safety and liability, Lower said ice fishing and ice skating are not allowed on Park Board-owned or -managed properties. He said the county Commissioners have asked him to pursue a county ordinance to make those activities unlawful; "a vote did not take place and discussion on the ordinance was tabled until the next meeting," the minutes state.
Lower also said the Commissioners purchased a John Deere Gator for Ross Hills and Ross Camp properties and that the Park Department will purchase a snowplow attachment. He added the ATV will be indispensable for maintaining properties and trails.
