Vice President Chan urges creation of ad hoc immigration committee; president says it will be considered

At the Nov. 22 meeting Vice President Chan asked the board to consider establishing an ad hoc committee on immigration in response to concerns raised after the election.
Chan told the board, “After the election we have a large number of immigrants in Alameda County who are likely to be affected by the outcome of the election. I wanted the Board to consider, the Board President consider setting up an ad hoc committee on immigration.”
County Counsel cautioned that the board could not take action on a non‑agenda item; the president responded that he would raise the proposal at the next meeting and said he would likely appoint Supervisor Vallejo to chair the ad hoc committee if it proceeds.
No formal committee was created at this meeting because the matter was not on the agenda; the board recorded intention to take up the subject at a future meeting.
