Alameda County board adopts salary, fire, traffic and building code updates; closed‑session settlement reported

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors adopted a series of ordinances and code amendments during its Nov. 8 meeting and received a closed-session update on a pending settlement.
On the consent and regular agenda the board moved to adopt an amendment to the 2016–17 Alameda County Salary Ordinance by second reading; the motion passed (recorded as five ayes). The board also moved to adopt first- and second-reading items updating the countyordinance code to align local fire code provisions with the 2015 International Fire Code and the 2016 California Fire Code, and to adopt amendments to the county traffic code. The Public Works package included a repeal and replacement to adopt the 2016 editions of the California building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and housing codes; motions related to those readings and adoptions were approved (votes recorded as five ayes where recorded).
In reporting out of closed session, county counsel told the board the county approved a settlement in the case styled "[plaintiff] vs. County of Alameda," case number 4:15-cv-02490-DMR, in the amount of $950,000. Counsel said the settlement is contingent on court approval because the plaintiff is a minor.
Following the votes the board adjourned; President Hagerty again encouraged residents to vote before leaving the meeting.
