Wood County commissioners approve slate of resolutions, accept $400,000 gift for Wood Haven Health Care

The Wood County Board of County Commissioners on March 3 approved a listing of resolutions that included routine contracts, appropriations and the acceptance of a $400,000 monetary gift to benefit Wood Haven Health Care.
Commissioner Theodore H. Bowlus moved to approve the resolutions on the attached listing and Commissioner Doris I. Herringshaw seconded; all present voted yes. The roll call recorded CRAIG LAHOTE, DR. THEODORE H. BOWLUS and DORIS I. HERRINGSHAW voting in the affirmative.
County Administrator Carri Stanley summarized several items on the resolution list. She said Resolution 26-00258 awards bids for asbestos abatement and demolition under the county's Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program. Resolution 26-00259 provides supplemental appropriations for ditch construction projects including Hammer Road #2488, Village of Portage #2489 and Dry Creek #59-A. Resolution 26-00261 authorizes an agreement for a countywide mass-notification system at a cost of $31,347; Stanley said agreements with participating communities would follow. Resolution 26-00262 authorizes a service agreement with MAXIMUS US Services, Inc. to prepare a unit cost rate report for eligible IV-D services at a total contract cost of $31,500 (approximately $10,500 per year for three years).
The board also approved several smaller procurement items listed on the resolution sheet, including purchases and installations for courthouse courtroom equipment and office renovations. Dollar amounts recorded in the listing include $12,779 for a variable air volume unit for Wood Haven (JL Mechanical Services, Inc.), $30,504.28 for office furniture (American Interiors), $4,225 for courtroom cameras and microphones (Habitec Security), and $6,978.81 for counters and countertops (Cabinetry Counters & More). The full resolution listing provided to the board names additional contracts and reappointments.
Resolution 26-00273 accepts a $400,000 gift from Laurel Krone to be used for the benefit of Wood Haven Health Care. Stanley read that Krone's letter specifies the donor's intended uses: Parkinson's exercise and wellness programming, therapy and rehabilitation equipment, resident care and quality-of-life enhancements, staff support resources that aid safe, high-quality care, and resident activity and engagement programs. Stanley said Ohio Revised Code sections 121.22 and 305.11 permit the county commissioners to accept monetary gifts on behalf of a county nursing home and use the funds consistent with the donor's request.
Open forum yielded no public comments. Commissioner Bowlus moved to adjourn; Commissioner Herringshaw seconded and the motion carried at 9:40 a.m. The agenda also noted a 5:30 p.m. Planning Commission meeting that evening; commissioners attended but no official action was taken at that session.
Votes at a glance: the board approved the listed resolutions (26-00256 through 26-00273) as presented; recorded roll-call votes for the session were unanimous among the three recorded commissioners.
