Facilities director says Historical Museum roof and dormers need replacement; county to consider summer work

Facilities Director Steve Blausey briefed the Wood County Board of Commissioners on March 3 about ongoing maintenance and several upcoming capital needs, singling out the Historical Museum as a near-term priority.

Blausey said the museum roof appears to require more than a simple patch: the dormers are deteriorating, the wood is rotting and window replacements are needed. He reported a fall quote for the roof-only work of about $175,000 and stated an additional price of roughly $70,000 for the dormers and related work. "They both should be replaced this summer," Blausey said. County Administrator Carri Stanley noted the county has previously fronted funding for large museum projects that are repaid over time.

Blausey also reviewed completed and current facilities work: replacement of new floats for sewer pumps in the Office Building pump room; a new A/C unit for the laundry area at Wood Haven; painting in the Recorder’s Office; ongoing renovation at CPC 1 (framing and drywall largely complete); and new ceilings and carpeting installations in various offices. Upcoming projects include replacement of multiple mechanical units across county buildings (nine units across JDC, JFS, Wood Haven and the Fuel Building) and repair work on sprinkler lines at the Sheriff’s Office. He said maintenance crews will perform the courthouse basement breakroom remodel using in-house staff after cabinetry delivery.

The board thanked Blausey for the update; staff indicated further discussion and budgeting will follow as project scopes and funding are refined.
