The Rossville Con School District board approved a package of routine personnel, policy and finance items, accepting a retirement notice, multiple resignations, and several recommended hires and contract terms.
The board acknowledged the retirement of Donnetta Miller, effective at the end of the school year, after 41 years of service. Administrators presented recommended appointments including a math coach, an elementary assistant principal, and several teaching positions; contract lengths and base pay figures were provided in the meeting materials.
Administrators also reported policy revisions coordinated with the Indiana School Boards Association and in response to state law changes. Revisions cited included public records access, educational records, distribution/display of material on school property, and updates to student discipline and wireless device prohibition policies; the board approved the policy items presented.
On finance items, the board approved a restatement of the district's 401(a) retirement plan to ensure legal compliance; the restatement was presented as not materially changing the plan's intent. The board reviewed a proposed lease for a facility used by the Waupattinaw Career Cooperative; the lease would proceed only if the district receives a REDDY grant (the grant was described in materials at about $1.2 million) to fund needed HVAC and heating upgrades. Administrators said if the grant is not received the lease agreement will be null and void.
The board also received the extracurricular audit for July 2022 through June 2024 and a cybersecurity assessment that reported progress in maturing the district's cybersecurity program and identified recommendations for continued work. Donations to the FFA and ag program were recorded and accepted, and miscellaneous curriculum and summer program schedules were approved.
The meeting closed after routine reports and a brief exchange in which advisors said more districts are pursuing GO bond financing amid pressures on operations funds for bus replacements.
