The Pacific Grove Unified School District Board approved a set of procurement and contract actions intended to standardize roofing maintenance and advance planned facilities work.
Director Anderson proposed designating a single liquid-applied roofing product as the district's standard for built-up roofing systems because of consistent success in the field and a 40-year renewable warranty. The board adopted a resolution to make that product the district's product of choice for built-up roofs.
Staff then reported bid results on several projects: an exterior-painting contract for Pacific Grove Middle School awarded to Fresh Start Painting for $68,300 (about 45% below a $126,000 estimate); exterior painting of David Avenue buildings awarded to CMA Painting for $229,000 (about 23% under estimate); and a fire-alarm upgrade at Robert Down with a responsible bid from Century Alarm for $281,671, far below the $750,000 estimate. The board approved each contract by motion.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about exhibits and warranty procedures and requested that future exhibits be included in the main packet. Director Anderson said warranty top-coating would be performed by contractors under the renewable warranty program and that bid documents for other roof types would remain open for "or-equal" specification.
