Board approves contracts for administrative hearings, CTE CPR training and construction bids

The ABC Unified Board approved several contracts and bid awards during the May 5 meeting, including administrative hearings services, CTE teacher certification training, an elementary modernization project, and an asphalt paving unit‑price contract.

Doctor Castro presented a contract to provide American Heart Association CPR and first‑aid instructor training for career technical education (CTE) health science and medical technology teachers in the 2026‑27 school year; the board approved the contract to ensure alignment with local hospital partners. President Noyola called for the motion and the board approved the item.

Staff reported on construction bids. Mister Nguyen said the district received three bids for the second phase of Leo Elementary modernization but one bidder failed to submit a required bid bond and was deemed nonresponsive. "We received 3 bids; however, one of them did not turn in the bid bond, so they are therefore deemed nonresponsive," he said. The board awarded the modernization/site work project to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and approved a one‑year unit‑price asphalt paving contract with Universal Asphalt Co., Inc., with up to four annual renewals.

The board also authorized an agreement with the Department of General Services, Office of Administrative Hearings, to provide specialized case management and hearing services.
