Corte Madera Town Band asks council for roughly $17,300 to support concerts and July 4 parade

Members of the Corte Madera Town Band spoke during open time on May 5 to thank the council for three decades of support and to ask for funding for the band’s 2025–26 season. Tanya Weiss, a band member and euphonium player, said the ensemble is the only municipality‑based band in Marin County and described recent outreach at Oktoberfest, holiday concerts and Marin Humane Society events.

Kim Bishop, the band’s treasurer, said the band prepared a budget for the coming year that is similar to last year’s and anticipates no large capital expenses; the band expects to resume participation in the Fourth‑of‑July parade using a lowboy trailer for accessibility. Mark Cooper, the band’s librarian, described the community value of the band and presented a funding request to the council; he stated the requested amount as approximately $17,300 during his remarks.

Mayor and staff thanked the presenters and town staff noted that requests for operating support will be considered as part of upcoming budget amendment discussions. Staff advised that the budget workshop and amendment conversations will begin at a future meeting, and the town manager recommended handling the band’s request as part of that budget process.
