Supporters told the court membership would broaden access to grant programs and engineering assistance. "That is one of the things that our membership helps for the smaller entities, the municipal entities, to be able to access programs," the County Judge explained. Commissioner Tooley said he supported joining, calling it "a great deal" and pointing to projects the authority and similar regional groups have developed in neighboring counties.
The court voted to approve the resolution as presented; the Judge noted that if the authority and subsequent TxDOT review are favorable, the county would then move forward with membership. The resolution as approved authorizes county officials to execute necessary documents and forward the application to the member counties and, if recommended, to TxDOT for final action.
Next steps identified by the court include completing required documentation and awaiting the mobility authority's review. The court took no funding action at this meeting; joining the authority was described as having no direct membership fee to the county but as enabling municipalities and water districts to pursue grants through the authority's programs.
