Sanford council approves consent agenda, proclamations and event parking closure

At its April 7 meeting the Sanford City Council approved routine business including minutes and a traffic-code ordinance, read multiple proclamations and approved a temporary parking closure for a community event.
The consent agenda — which included the March 10 work session minutes, March 17 council meeting minutes and an ordinance erecting stop signs in the Marelli Subdivision Phase 1B — was approved on the motion of Council Member Walter Ferguson, seconded by Council Member Linda Rhodes, and carried unanimously. Mayor Rebecca Wyhof Salmon read proclamations declaring April 9, 2026 as Local News Day, April 2026 as Fair Housing Month, and April 6–10, 2026 as National Community Development Week; the Local News Day proclamation was presented to local media representatives. Parks Administrator Caroline Jeffries described a request from the Appearance Commission to close half of the Buggy Building parking lot for Bee City USA Field Day on May 2, 2026 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Council Member Jean Dabbs moved to approve the resolution, seconded by Council Member Mark Akinosho, and the motion carried unanimously.
The council also moved into a closed session under N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(1) and (5) to discuss privileged/confidential information and real‑property negotiation positions, and later adjourned the meeting on the motion of Council Member Linda Rhodes.
