Senior board weighs mariachi, dancers, magician or casino night for Sept. 9 social
Summary
Board members reviewed entertainment and food options for a planned Sept. 9 social: mariachi band and taco bar scored as preferred, dancer quotes were costlier (~$3,500), magician quotes ranged $1,000–$6,000, and a casino-night option was financially larger (example quote $5,200), with staff to present video samples for a June decision.

Members of the Senior Advisory Board discussed options and budget tradeoffs for a proposed Sept. 9 social event intended to revive the social series and attract attendees. A committee member outlined a multi-station food plan (taco bar, dessert bar, drink station) and presented three entertainment tracks: a mariachi band, folkloric dancers and a magician, plus a larger-scale casino-night option.
The committee shared preliminary vendor quotes: a mariachi band was cited in the $700 range for a multi-member group; a four-dancer folkloric troupe had a quote near $3,500; and magician quotes ranged from about $1,000 to $6,000 depending on format. A casino-night quote the committee shared (for a comparable neighboring event) was approximately $5,200 for tables and three hours of activity — an amount board members said would exceed the remaining event budget and would require offsetting reductions elsewhere.
Board members discussed the different goals of a casino fundraiser (where ticket sales can support charities) versus a social entertainment model (designed to entertain patrons rather than solicit). The chair and committee members favored keeping the event centered on food and entertainment with the mariachi band and taco bar as a likely core option, noting a desire to avoid high-effort solicitation. The committee agreed to collect additional quotes for dancers, show sample videos of magicians and dancers, and present clips at the next meeting so the board could act on entertainment selection by the June meeting (target date cited: June 4).
No binding decision was made at the meeting; the committee will return with additional quotes, video samples and a recommended option for the board to vote on at the June meeting.
