The council heard a construction and outreach update from Dan, the Dallas Stars representative for the North Lake multi-sport center. Dan told council the roof is on, the ice-plant is in place and the facility team is targeting the weekend of April 4 to open doors to the public, with a grand-opening date to be finalized in coordination with the city.
"The roof is on... the ice plant is in place and ready to be completely connected and installed," Dan said, describing remaining work such as installing court hardwoods and finishing interior fit-out. He said concessions (Shark Club) will be prepared to serve during the opening, with a full restaurant opening later in the summer, and that the Andrews Institute is in final contract negotiations for an orthopedics/sports-medicine tenancy.
Dan also outlined outreach to local schools (three elementary visits so far) and presented a concept for two annual 'North Lake Community Health Days' where the town could use the facility for health and wellness programming under the lease (two days a year at no charge). Ideas included free public skating, clinics, senior wellness programming, health screenings and a back‑to‑school backpack distribution event.
Councilmembers asked how schools were selected for visits and requested staff follow-up; Dan said he would coordinate with council and staff to expand outreach and finalize grand-opening details.
