Henry County school leaders emphasize community roots and investments in district

Two administrators who grew up in Henry County described returning to work in the district and urged alumni to help strengthen local schools.

An administrator said, "I am a Henry County native, born and raised," and described attending local schools, later earning a degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and returning to the district to pursue an administrative role after serving as a teacher. She said Henry County Public Schools helped her become a first-generation college graduate and that family support drew her back to the community.

The principal of Bassett High School described a similar path: she said she "got to be a teacher" at Walpark High School, helped start a career academy for alternative and technical education, worked in central office and later became principal. The principal said the district offers "a world class education," praised staff benefits and said the district is reviewing and planning facility growth to support students and staff.
