Spokane Salary Review Commission elects Reid chair, Larson vice chair and adopts biweekly meeting schedule

Commissioner Carl Reid Justin (who goes by Reid) was selected chair of the Spokane Salary Review Commission, and Commissioner Jens Larson was chosen vice chair by unanimous consent at the panel's special meeting. The appointments were treated as a de facto motion and adopted without objection after several commissioners volunteered for the roles.

The commission also voted 5-0 to adopt a regular meeting schedule of every other week on Friday afternoons, beginning May 22 at 3:00 p.m. Jacoby, the council office director supporting the commission, said staff will post the regular meeting notices and that meetings may be canceled if not needed. "The next regularly scheduled meeting will be May 22 at 03:00," Jacoby said.

Adam McDaniel, the mayor's policy adviser working with the commission, said staff prefers Thursdays or Fridays for calendar availability but will support the Friday schedule. Commissioners noted practical constraints such as City Hall closing at 5:00 p.m. and the need to avoid security issues for meetings running past that time.

The new chair and vice chair will lead agendas and coordinate with staff on next steps, including scheduling a meeting to consider draft bylaws and rules of procedure. The commission adjourned by unanimous consent following adoption of the schedule.

The appointments and the schedule set the procedural framework for the commission's work on mayoral and council salaries this cycle; staff said it will circulate meeting notices and supporting materials in advance.
