Minnetrista signals support for asking MnDOT to reconsider roundabout location; council backs exploring a St. Boniface fire district

Council members gave staff direction on two intergovernmental items: a joint letter to MnDOT about a planned roundabout and a resolution to explore a fire‑district model with St. Boniface.

On the roundabout, a staff member said the proposal would "urge MnDOT to move the roundabout that's planned at County Road 92 and 7 to the Wildwood/Hunters Veil and Wildwood And 7 area," adding the intent is to ask MnDOT to engage in conversation about whether the project can be relocated to reduce neighborhood impacts. The recommended next step is to have staff finalize the letter for the mayor’s signature and to send it to the city’s MnDOT representative.

Council members said they supported the concept, with the caveat that MnDOT could still fund and build both intersections if money allows. "If they have enough money to do both roundabouts ... that's up to them," one council member said, but the council favored pursuing the conversation.

On the fire‑district matter, staff described a draft resolution to examine forming a fire district limited to the area St. Boniface currently serves in Minnetrista. The work would be led by city administration, St. Boniface staff and the St. Boniface fire chief (Eric Anderson) and would likely involve the state fire marshal group to evaluate the district model and the legal/financial implications before any formal action by participating city councils.

Council did not adopt the resolution at the work session but directed staff to place the item on a future council agenda with the draft resolution and supporting materials so the councils can consider formal adoption after further development.
