Drama club and SkillsUSA students showcase learning and out-of-district competition success

Students and staff from Central Mountain High School highlighted recent extracurricular successes and requests during the board's May 7 work session.
Erica Conklin, drama club adviser, introduced students who described technical and performance learning, noted that the club made investments in sound equipment and requested facilities planning for stage repairs, backstage storage and rigging restoration. Conklin said the club expects to invest approximately $5,000 a year into sound improvements and estimated cumulative investments around $30,000 by 2030 for lighting and instruments.
CTC instructors and SkillsUSA students also presented competition results: the district took teams to district and state competitions, earned several place winners and plans to send two teams to the SkillsUSA national leadership and skills conference in Atlanta in June. Student presenters described community-service projects and technical work that yielded state-level placements and a nationals berth.
Board members praised the students and asked administration to coordinate facility requests and curriculum opportunities with building-level staff and the facilities committee. The board did not take formal action on any requests at the work session.
