The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County authorized a FY2025 agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission to provide fire-tower detection and related personnel for county fire protection.
The resolution, adopted June 4 during the regular meeting and reflected in subsequent work-session documents, authorizes the county to pay the Georgia Forestry Commission up to $4,738.58 for the contract period July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. The agreement specifies Forestry will select and employ a temporary fire-tower operator assigned to the county unit; the operator will not be scheduled for more than 40 hours per week and local residents are to be used when possible. Either party may terminate the agreement with 30 days’ written notice.
Commissioner Timothy Biddle moved to approve the Forestry agreement; Commissioner Jason Frost seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The Commission also passed a resolution authorizing Chairman Charles Coffey to execute the agreement on the county's behalf.
County Manager Thomas Weaver confirmed that the Forestry funding and staffing arrangement is intended to supplement local detection capability and that the county has already received certain road and roadway grant funds (LMIG) for other public works projects.
The agreement and resolution are recorded in the county minutes and appended to the June 4 meeting materials.
