Scott County schools to again offer free summer meals under USDA program

Scott County Public Schools plans to participate in the USDA Summer Food Service Program again in summer 2026, Assistant Superintendent Jason Smith told the school board at its April 7 meeting. The federally funded program allows school systems to serve free meals to children and teens ages 18 and younger during the summer months when school is not in session.
The division said it will publish meal site locations and service times prior to the start of the program so families know where meals will be available. The presentation to the board did not include a finalized list of sites or specific operating hours; district officials said those details will be announced once logistics are finalized.
Participation in the USDA program is intended to maintain access to nutritious meals for children during the summer break and is consistent with the division’s prior participation in the program. The board accepted the report as presented and moved on to other business.
