“The bids are due next Friday, May 15,” Wysocki said. He said the city hopes to begin construction before the end of the fiscal year; whether both sets of stairs at 10th and 12th avenues are done simultaneously will depend on how bids come in.
Wysocki also described ongoing pavement work: crack sealing, microsurfacing and finishing a conglomerate paving project, with county drainage repairs near Ocean Avenue above Highway 1 to protect nearby homes. He said the Carmel Area Wastewater District will start microsurfacing work on Scenic Drive the week of May 4.
Why this matters: The stairs improve public beach access; timing and contractor selection will determine when construction begins and whether both stair sites proceed together. Street paving and drainage work affect traffic and property protection in higher-elevation areas of the city.
