The Fox River Grove Board of Trustees directed staff on May 6 to draft an ordinance to allow low-speed electric scooters in the village by adopting the State of Illinois regulation set out in Public Act 103-0899.
Administrator Soderholm told the board that the State amended the Illinois Vehicle Code on Aug. 9, 2024 (Public Act 103-0899) to address the regulation of low-speed electric scooters and authorized municipalities to permit or prohibit their use and to set local fines. The board discussed the policy and instructed staff to prepare an ordinance that mirrors the State framework "without any additional conditions at this time," to be considered at a future meeting.
No formal vote to adopt an ordinance occurred at the May 6 meeting; the board’s directive was to return a draft ordinance for future consideration. The board recorded no public comments on the item during the meeting.
Next steps: staff will draft the ordinance for board review at a subsequent meeting, per the board’s direction.
