The superintendent and members of the working group described the vision as intended to create shared expectations for what excellent instruction looks like across all Acadia Parish classrooms. A working-group member said the group aimed to “have something very easy to understand” so teachers and administrators know what is expected daily.
Principals and board members asked for details about how the vision would be translated into daily classroom observations, principal training and teacher communications. The superintendent outlined a rollout plan that includes principal meetings, focus-group calls and communications to teachers and communities before the August start of the school year.
One principal described the plan’s potential impact on teachers who face challenging class compositions: “Our teachers do fight different battles every day,” the principal said, urging the district to ensure the work reaches “that last little kid” who can’t wait five years for change.
Board members and community attendees reported positive feedback from other parishes and the Louisiana School Board Association, which staff said had cited Acadia Parish’s work as an example. The district said it will continue principal-focused professional development as a first implementation step and invited working-group members to present further details at future board meetings.
Next steps recorded at the meeting included continued working-group meetings, sharing the draft with principals at an upcoming principal meeting, and producing implementation details for board review.
