Youth City Council’s volunteer webpage idea approved; staff to meet on implementation

The Broken Arrow City Council voted to accept a proposal from the city’s Youth City Council to add a volunteer-signup page to the city website, after a presentation by Youth City Council mayor Lizzie Grounds.
“This year, we would like to propose the idea of an addition to the current ba.gov website for volunteers to connect with local organizations to receive service hours,” said Lizzie Grounds, who listed local partners that had expressed interest in participating. Grounds cited research from Volunteer Matters that paper signups have high no-show rates and said email and text reminders could reduce no-shows.
Council moved to accept the YCC “big idea” (item 26-538). The motion passed by roll call. Council directed staff — including Lori Hill and city staff — to meet with Grounds and other YCC members and with city web staff to map the feature and return with an implementation plan and a short demonstration for council.
Mayor Deborah Wimpey praised the students and council members expressed support for simplifying volunteer access for residents and students. No budget or funding action was taken at the meeting; council asked staff to report back with technical requirements and any costs.
