The Chair said the wall, an approximately 8-foot-tall retaining structure holding up the courthouse parking lot, is “leaning out 24 inches” and that water runs through the wall during rain and thaw cycles, which risks crumbling the wall. “This is just preliminary looking at what might have to be done soon in the future,” the Chair said.
The Commissioner emphasized the discussion was not a vote and said cost estimates should be obtained before any public hearing because of taxpayer concerns. “We're not actually voting on this at this time, but we're just checking it,” the Commissioner said.
Commissioners agreed staff should gather price estimates for the geotechnical work, topographic survey and preliminary design before scheduling a public hearing. No formal motion or funding decision was recorded at the meeting; the item was left for further review pending cost information.
The commission moved on to other business after the exchange.
