The Ionia Public Schools Board of Education on April 21 voted unanimously to join the Ionia ISD Collaborative Schools of Choice Plan and to make related statutory elections on Sections 105 and 105c.
Superintendent Ben Gurk presented the ISD collaborative plan item before the board. President Yokom moved to participate in the Ionia ISD Collaborative Schools of Choice Plan; Trustees Shippey and Siemon supported the motion and the roll-call vote was 6-0 in favor.
On statutory elections, the board voted 6-0 to opt out of Section 105 and separately voted 6-0 to opt in to Section 105c. Both items were presented by Superintendent Gurk and carried by motions moved by President Yokom and supported by board members as recorded in the roll calls.
The board did not discuss further details of how participation in the ISD plan will change local enrollment or assignment procedures during this meeting; the minutes record the vote outcomes and indicate the superintendent presented the items.
