Midway reports busy park season, solid-waste hauler switch and healthy March finances; budget workshop moved to April 23

Town Manager Brock Hall told the council April 6 that the Town Park is “experiencing its busiest time of year,” with six reservations the previous weekend and seven more booked for the coming weekend. Survey work at the park has begun, though completion depends on a utility contractor’s response.
On solid-waste service, Hall said the town is transitioning from GFL to North Davidson Garbage. "GFL's last pickup days will be April 27th, 28th, and 29th, with North Davidson Garbage taking over May 1st," he said. North Davidson Garbage will start delivering cans to customers on April 16, accompanied by informational notes explaining the new pickup schedule and app signup instructions.
Hall presented the March 2026 monthly financial report showing year-to-date revenue of $1,937,501 (84.1% of budget) and expenses of $1,031,190 (44.7% of budget). He told council that investment earnings totaled approximately $155,000 for the year and that most expenditures in the month were personnel and contract related. Hall said he will compile additional information on investments and accounts for the next budget session.
The council discussed dates for appreciation dinners and agreed to check venue availability for May 12, May 14, June 11 and June 15. Because of a scheduling conflict with a Davidson County elected-official event, council voted unanimously to change the budget workshop from April 16 to April 23, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
The meeting recessed to closed session under N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(5) to discuss acquisition of real property and later reconvened to open session before adjourning.
