Midway schedules May 4 public hearings on rezoning and CCOD text amendments

The Midway Town Council unanimously voted April 6 to call public hearings for May 4 on two land-use items: a rezoning request submitted by Joseph G. Thomas and proposed text amendments to the town’s Core Commercial Overlay District (CCOD).
Mayor John Byrum described the rezoning application as a request for a 0.46-acre parcel (Tax Map 12, Lot 71) on the west side of Old U.S. Highway 52, approximately 0.16 miles north of Hickory Tree Road, to change zoning from CS (Community Shopping) to OI (Office & Institutional). Mayor Byrum said the request will be the subject of a public hearing at the council’s next regular meeting on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall.
Council also agreed to hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to Section 3.08 of the CCOD of the Town of Midway zoning ordinance. The hearings were scheduled by unanimous motions (rezoning motion seconded by Councilor Keith Leonard; CCOD motion seconded by Councilor Jackie Edwards).
The hearings will provide an opportunity for the public to comment and for the council to consider any staff recommendations or ordinance language changes before taking a final action.
