Midway Council approves design contract and $145,400 project ordinance for Public Works facility

The Midway Town Council voted unanimously April 6 to hire Metropolis Architecture to design a new Public Works facility and to adopt Project Ordinance No. 26-01, which establishes a $145,400 budget for design-related work.
Town Manager Brock Hall told the council the agreement with Metropolis Architecture covers “design, documentation, bidding, and construction administration” and that the project ordinance will be amended later to reflect actual construction costs. The ordinance appropriates $97,650 for basic building and parking services and $47,750 for additional services, including two picnic shelters and parking, with the funding source listed as town fund balance.
Council approved the Independent Contractor Agreement after Town Attorney Jim Lanik reviewed the documents. Mayor Pro Tem Mike McAlpine made the motion to approve the agreement; Councilor Jackie Edwards seconded it. The council also adopted Project Ordinance No. 26-01 by unanimous vote.
In the same meeting, the council renewed its IT support contract with BubbaJake Inc., d/b/a One Step Computer Solutions. Brock Hall said contracting for IT services helps the town stay within budget instead of hiring full-time staff. The renewal runs through June 30, 2027; the motion to approve the contract renewal was made by Councilor Keith Leonard and seconded by Councilor Jackie Edwards, and the vote was unanimous.
Next steps for the Public Works facility include completing design and bidding documents and returning to council with construction-phase cost estimates, at which time the project ordinance will be amended to reflect construction funding needs.
