Representatives of the Bellevue Bicycle Club thanked the mayor and council for support and described the Ride of Silence as an annual, solemn event that honors people killed or injured while cycling and reminds drivers that cyclists have the legal right to share the roadway. "The Ride of Silence seeks to elevate these points, honor those killed or injured in car crashes, and to remind drivers that cyclists have the legal authority to ride in and share the roadway," a club representative said.
Club member Michael McGee recorded his name and address for the meeting record and the council posed for a photograph with the presenters. The club noted that member Jeff Quan was struck by a vehicle on Feb. 25 and that legal and physical issues related to that crash remain unresolved.
