Oneida County ADRC leaders reported a $23,000 federal reduction to the Senior Nutrition Program and lower meals served in January compared with prior years, and they said the county may need to establish a waiting list or tighten meal-assistance criteria if additional funding is not found.
"Overall funding is down for the Senior Nutrition Program - there was a $23,000 cut in funding by the federal government," the minutes state, citing committee discussion led by Chair Ted Cushing and staff member Beth Hoerchler. Cushing noted the January meal count was down from recent years.
Staff described operational pressures: functional screens are up from previous years and each screen takes an estimated 8 to 12 hours to complete. Volunteers helped offset workloads; a volunteer-coordinator report showed over 100 documented volunteer hours, largely in kitchen work and home-delivered meal driving.
The minutes also record a $2,500 donation from Incredible Bank to support expenses at the Woodruff dining site. Committee members discussed that Vilas County currently has a waiting list for meals and that Oneida County might have to implement similar measures or change eligibility rules if funding does not improve.
The committee received the 2026 financial reports and noted the items for follow-up; no vote was recorded on budget reallocations at this meeting.
