The Gardner City Council voted May 4 to forward its FY2027 council budget to the mayor after approving an amendment to add a $2,000 technology line item.
Councilor Alex told colleagues the finance committee reviewed the proposal and supported sending the budget to the mayor. He moved an amendment adding a $2,000 line for technology to enable rolling replacement of devices for the council. The council paused briefly for members to review the amendment, then returned and approved the amendment and the motion to submit the budget as amended.
Councilor Alex emphasized the amendment was not a final appropriation but a planning item to be discussed again when the full budget process resumes. The motion to submit the budget to the mayor passed by voice vote.
Next steps: the mayor will receive the council's proposed budget and the technology line will be available for further discussion in subsequent budget hearings.
