Neighbors press Walnut Creek to enforce short‑term rental rules near elementary school

Jan Warren and Lisa Blanco added that listings appear on Vrbo and other platforms, that neighbors have documented repeated bookings and noise incidents, and that the property is not operating as a bed‑and‑breakfast and does not provide breakfast or other services associated with that land use.
Mayor Wilk asked the residents to speak with Community Development Director Bridal Vander Brandt for follow‑up information; staff agreed to provide a public service clarification of short‑term rental rules and to follow up with the residents. Councilmembers also suggested a future public service announcement explaining what is permitted under state law and what local enforcement mechanisms exist.
No enforcement action was announced on the record during the meeting; city staff committed to follow up with the complainants and to report back.
