Shelton council adopts investment, water pressure and environmental-contract measures; schedules reservoir predesign for May 19

The Shelton City Council on May 5 adopted several administrative and infrastructure measures and scheduled additional items for the council’s May 19 action agenda.

Council voted to adopt resolution 1432-0326 to update signatory authority on the city’s Local Government Investment Pool account so the city manager and finance director can deposit and withdraw funds, Finance Director Terry Schnitzer told the council. The motion passed by voice vote.

Separately, the council approved resolution 1433-0326 to authorize a public works professional services consultant roster work order for the Upper Ingleside pressure zone project. City staff said the project is expected to improve storage and pressure for the distribution system and could support up to about 900 additional housing units in the city’s growth area. “We applied some direct appropriations and grant money to help head us in this direction,” a council member said during discussion.

The council also adopted resolution 1434-0426, allowing the city manager to enter a purchase order (as described in the resolution reading) with an environmental consultant to perform a supplemental site investigation at the Boot Hill property. Staff characterized the work as retesting street-sweeping materials and evaluating groundwater complexities; the presenter described contaminants as common vehicle-related pollutants and said the testing will determine whether levels remain low or require further action.

Councilors moved three additional resolutions onto the May 19 action agenda for fuller consideration: resolution 1436-0426 (a consultant work order for preliminary predesign of the Mount Lebuk Reservoir), resolution 1437-0426 (acceptance of $449,150 from the Department of Ecology for a PCB transformer replacement project), and resolution 1438-0426 (an interlocal agreement with Public Utility District No. 3 of Mason County to implement Ecology grant-funded transformer replacement). Those motions passed by voice vote; the items will return to the council on May 19 for formal consideration.

The meeting closed after manager reports recognizing an employee for lifesaving actions during a house fire and noting a community cleanup that removed roughly 9.5 tons of debris.
