At its Sept. 15 meeting the Burke County Board of Commissioners approved the consent agenda and moved through several personnel and procedural actions by unanimous votes.
Consent agenda: The board accepted items including updated advisory‑board rules of procedure, an appointment to the Council on Aging, the monthly tax collection report and the monthly release/refund report for August 2025.
Plat‑review consolidation: Deputy Manager and Planning Director Allen Glantz presented a plan to centralize the statutory components of plat review (surveyor certifications, owner signatures, deed references and required plat elements) with county staff while leaving municipal zoning and watershed review with local planners. The proposal—scheduled to begin Oct. 1 with a rollout concluding Jan. 1, 2026—was adopted as resolution 2025‑30 by a 5‑0 vote.
Appointments and reappointments: The board reappointed Gregory Smith to Board of Adjustment Seat 4 (West) and reappointed or appointed members to the Burke County Planning Board (Sean Freeman to Seat 2 East; Andrew Loudermill to Seat 5 at‑large). The clerk also presented and the board approved appointments to the county revaluation task force (Tim Newton, Kevin Farris, Evan Crowley, Jerry Norville, Johnny Carswell) and reappointments to the veteran service board (David Turbergen and Edwin Ware). All motions recorded in the transcript carried by unanimous voice vote.
What this means: The plat‑review centralization standardizes statutory plat checks at the county level and is intended to reduce duplicate municipal review workload. Board approvals of appointments bring selected citizens and professionals onto advisory and oversight panels as noted.
