Middle school on track; district reports $1.5 million contingency reallocated and pilots for custodial robotics planned

"Vogel brothers sent that through to doctor Brown, she approved it, and in effect we took $1,500,000 worth of savings out of this project, to fund, fundamentally most of it was safety improvements," Steve Summers said.
The committee reviewed a maintenance-prioritization spreadsheet tied to the board-approved $1,000,000 capital maintenance budget for 2026; staff said there are no major changes until the middle- and high-school summer projects conclude and that administration will return with a close-out accounting of remaining maintenance funds.
On custodial staffing, administrators said the board previously approved two additional custodial FTE. John (staff member, custodial lead) presented workload modeling from vendor Hillyard and proposed adding autonomous cleaning technology in some buildings to reduce repetitive tasks and reallocate staff where needed. Staff said an intermediate-school pilot could allow the district to shift roughly 0.5 FTE to other sites over time by deploying robotic scrubbers and reconfiguring schedules.
Committee members asked for clarification on the proposed FTE changes and utilization rates; administrators emphasized this meeting was a first look and said a more detailed proposal will be provided to the committee in June.
Next steps: administration will walk committee members through the new middle school on the scheduled tour, finalize close-out figures for contingency and capital maintenance tracking, and return in June with more detailed proposals on custodial technology and staffing.
