Petitioner Ralph Pence presented a request Dec. 17 for a façade grant to help refurbish 412 Lincoln Avenue, providing an itemized quote and renderings that showed a total cost of $52,075. Assistant Administrator Bechler told the board that under the village's 50/50 façade program the Village share would have been approximately $26,000.
During discussion, Trustee Steve Knar said he was uncomfortable approving a $26,000 village contribution when there is no tenant lined up and questioned whether a sales-tax-producing business would occupy the space. Pence described the interior as a "white box" with stair access to a basement restroom and said the space is not currently set up for a restaurant.
Trustees Curtiss and Migdal signaled support for a $16,000 cost-share; Trustees Schladt, Wall and President McLaughlin said they would support an amount between $16,000 and $19,000. The board's general consensus was to ask staff to draft an agreement for approval that would provide a $16,000 façade grant reimbursement at 412 Lincoln Avenue. The meeting record does not show a formal motion and roll-call vote on final grant approval; staff were directed to prepare an agreement for the board's future consideration.
