Fox River Grove wins $600,000 state grant for Lions Park renovation

Village President Marc McLaughlin announced Dec. 17 that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources awarded the Village of Fox River Grove a $600,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant for improvements at Lions Park.
The grant is expected to be part of a larger project with a total estimated investment of $1.9 million, McLaughlin said. He told trustees he has begun meeting with Special Events and Parks committee members to gather feedback on committee structure and said an exit interview will be scheduled with Special Events Chairperson Jamie Dimmick following the recent Tree Lighting event.
The funding announcement places Lions Park planning on a timetable that will involve village staff and committee review, McLaughlin said. The board did not take additional action on the project during the meeting; next steps described were internal planning and committee input. The announcement was made during the president's report early in the Dec. 17 meeting.
The Park project and the OSLAD award are expected to involve matching funds and further village-level approvals; McLaughlin described the $600,000 as the award amount and the $1.9 million figure as the anticipated total project investment. No timeline for construction or final design approval was announced at the meeting.
