Council backs nonbinding statement of interest to explore Jamestown Township parcels for housing

The Steuben County Council on March 10 approved Resolution No. 03‑2026‑03, a Statement of Interest to explore purchase of three parcels in Jamestown Township that officials said could be used in a housing development tied to the Housing Optimizer program.
Auditor Kelli Johnson presented the resolution on behalf of the County Commissioners and listed the parcels and acreages: parcel 76‑03‑24‑000‑021.000‑006 (20.72 acres), parcel 76‑03‑23‑000‑034.000‑006 (9.33 acres) and parcel 76‑03‑24‑000‑020.000‑006 (17.80 acres). Commissioner Andy Laughlin noted the property includes the EMS North Station and a large storage area that could be repurposed for station upgrades. Johnson emphasized the resolution is only a Statement of Interest and does not bind the county to any purchase.
The council voted 6–0 to approve the resolution. The minutes state that the parcels could be incorporated into Housing Optimizer planning, and that subsequent action would follow further review by the County Commission.
