Commissioners establish reserve for DA office furnishings, discuss court lease renewal and rent options

County administrator (speaker 3) asked whether the commission would agree to establish a reserve account to cover furnishings and equipment for the DA’s substation; commissioners voted to set up the reserve. "So we'll just have that already set up," the chair said after the motion passed.
The board also discussed the existing lease arrangement with the courts and whether to negotiate a renewal or terminate and issue a new lease effective July 1, 2026. Staff noted the county currently provides building services (cleaning and maintenance) and that the county had previously proposed a $14 per square foot rate; the courts had indicated lower numbers. Commissioners asked staff to pursue further conversations and prepare a draft renewal or termination/renewal package as appropriate.
Ending: The reserve account for potential DA furnishings was approved; staff will engage with court officials on lease terms and return to the commission with options and any required budget impacts for 2027.
