The Hancock County Commissioners on May 5 authorized staff to advertise for bids to replace the county’s transport van for the jail after an accident, approved a stove purchase for the jail kitchen, and approved several personnel actions relating to corrections staff.
Chair (speaker 2) and commissioners discussed funding: the county has approximately $30,000 in reserves for vehicle replacement and an expected insurance payout of about $3,500. The board moved to authorize advertising for a transport van and approved the motion by voice vote.
Separately, Commissioner (speaker 1) described the jail’s failing oven and moved to purchase a replacement from Webstaurant (WebstaurantStore) for $5,623 plus a 5% contingency to cover removal, supplies and gas piping, bringing the total to $5,905 to be paid from building reserve account G1-3011-00; the motion was seconded and approved. Finance staff said they would separate transfer sheets for the oven purchase and a related concrete job.
The commission also approved hiring actions: the board approved hiring Joshua Ladosk Obrua as an on‑call corrections officer (grade 9, step 4, no benefits, effective May 9) and approved employing Bradley Malloy of Bangor as an on‑call corrections officer. The commission accepted the resignation of patrol deputy Alan Medina Contreras effective May 1, 2026 and thanked him for his service.
Ending: The board authorized procurement steps and completed personnel actions; staff will proceed with bid advertising, purchase processing and paperwork for hires and the resignation.
