Thurston County honors late Sen. Sam Hunt, lowers flags to half-staff

Auditor Hall recalled Hunt’s decades of work on election policy and other democracy-related laws, saying Hunt "sponsored every single redistricting bill" and helped secure state funding for elections that filled a “huge” county budget gap. Hall also told commissioners a celebration of life is scheduled for May 30 at South Puget Sound Community College.
Vice Chair moved to lower flags at county buildings through the end of the week; a fellow commissioner seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote.
The action was ceremonial and intended to recognize Hunt’s service; the board then proceeded with its scheduled business.
