Henderson County approves $15,000 to support military-run medical training offering free care

Henderson County Fiscal Court on April 28 authorized $15,000 to help fund an "Innovative Readiness Training" (IRT) event in the region that deploys military personnel to provide community medical services.
City Manager Buzzy Newman told the court the program — applied for through the Delta Regional Authority — will bring branches of the military to Henderson, Union and Webster counties to offer free medical, vision and dental care. Newman said this will be the community’s second IRT visit; a prior two-week event included veterinary services, which Newman said will not be available this time.
Newman said the City of Henderson is funding $35,000 and requested that Henderson, Union and Webster counties each contribute $15,000 to help support the project. He also noted that the Pentagon has approached the city about a disaster-response exercise in 2028 that would make Henderson County the first to sponsor a recovery project typically used for communities affected by flooding.
Magistrate Puttman moved to authorize Fiscal Court to provide $15,000; Magistrate Starks seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. The minutes show the court expects additional information to be provided to counties as planning continues.
The minutes do not specify dates for the event or the precise scope of clinical services beyond the categories listed; funding is intended to support the county’s participation in the forthcoming training visit.
