Veterans service commissioner reports 21 county suicides in 2025, urges public awareness

Anissa Yountz, speaking on behalf of the Veterans Service Commission during audience comments, told the Board of Clark County Commissioners that the county has recorded 21 suicides this year and that two recent deaths include one veteran.
Yountz encouraged interest in the Suicide Prevention Coalition — Clark County Cares — and offered window clings, flyers and a Facebook page for information and outreach. She also reported that the veterans office has coordinated with Ferncliff Cemetery to provide a headstone for Robert C. Allen, a veteran who died in 1961 and previously had no marker; the date for a memorial celebration is pending.
Commissioner Patterson asked staff to link the county’s Facebook page to the Suicide Prevention Coalition’s materials, and Commissioner Wilt requested trend information; Yountz said she would provide the data to the board.
No formal board action was taken on the public comment; commissioners acknowledged the update and planned administrative follow-up to share information and links.
