Clark County approves AT&T contract to enable text and video to 911

The Board of Clark County Commissioners on March 25 authorized a contract with AT&T to deploy Next Generation 911 services that will allow the public to send text messages and video to 911 call takers.
Sheriff Chris Clark told commissioners this contract is one of the remaining "last mile" connections required under new Next Gen 911 standards and will allow dispatchers to operate from alternate locations if the main 911 center becomes inoperable. "It gives options for redundancy and backup which is what the Sheriff’s Office is striving for," Clark said.
The contract is a 36‑month, not‑to‑exceed agreement for $40,530.96 to be paid from the 911 Assistance Fund. Clark explained that the county’s 911 fund is financed through a surcharge on wireless bills; the legislature raised the per‑dollar allocation and the county now receives a larger portion to support the upgrade.
Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize the County Administrator to execute the contract. The sheriff estimated the system enhancements should be in place within 60 to 90 days.
The Board approved the contract as Resolution 2026‑0234; the motion to authorize was made by Commissioner Charles A. Patterson and seconded by Commissioner Richard L. Lohnes. The contract execution was delegated to the County Administrator.
